CALLING

VOLUNTEERS!

Come help rebuild people's lives!

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

We serve those who cannot serve themselves...Widows, Elderly, and Special Needs  - roofs, interior and exterior painting, mold removal, cleaning and yardwork.

Or help replant a coffee farm! Hurricane Maria wiped out the island's coffee industry. This is some of the BEST coffee you will ever taste. But unfortunately it takes years for the bushes to mature and produce berries, so the time to replant is NOW.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You get to choose which area you would like to work in, it's all community service--You just decide if it's helping a deserving someone with their house to make it liveable again, or if it's on a farm giving a helping hand with small business. RecoRico will connect you with a group that is doing that particular work on the island. You will be working closely with them and they will be excited you've joined them.

WHERE WILL YOU STAY?

We put you up in an Air BnB style home; if you're an individual coming, it may be hostel style with a guys dorm room and girls dorm room style sleeping arrangements. If you're a couple, we may be able to find you a private room. If you're a family, a series of rooms or home. And if you're a team we will find you a house.

The home will be in the general area of where the work will be done. It may be in the cool mountains, or it may be on the warm coastal regions. It may be in a busy city or out in the rural countryside. You get to decide on the work environment.

You'll have transportation and be provided meals. You'll be given a full adventure. Your itinerary will include fulfilling work days and extraordinary play days.

The cost will be somewhere around $100 a day - depending on what we find for housing and a few other factors. You tell us how long you can stay and we will work out the details!

We hope you can come!!

FAQ'S

Do I need a Passport? If you're from the USA you do not.  Puerto Rico is a US territory.

Do my debit cards work in PR? Yes - Puerto Rico uses US currency, so debit and credit cards work the same as in the states.

Is It Safe? The laws are enforced the same as in the States. Housing will be in safer neighborhoods many times with security gates. It is not like a 3rd world country. In the cities there are Walgreens, Walmarts, Costco, Malls, etc. Your host group knows the area you are in and will be with you most of the time.  We do encourage staying in groups and never going off individually alone.

Do I Need to know Spanish? No, many Puerto Ricans know English. Speaking Spanish would be helpful though!

What will we do? You will be connected with an organization that is restoring a home, community center or farm. You will be working with your hands; it can be as simple as cleaning up debris, repainting, repairing, planting, etc. to reconstructing, depending on your skills.

Am I too old? We think all ages bring value. We will find something for you to do!

Am I too young? We've seen mature 9 year olds get more done than immature 20 year olds. So mature kids and adults, welcome! We love your energy!

Will I get too tired or too hot?

The temperatures are in the low 80's year round. There's usually a breeze near the coast or maybe you'll be in cooler elevations of the mountains. If you know you can get overheated easily, let's make sure you're hydrated and in the shade doing a job that keeps you healthy.

What do I bring? Warm weather work clothes that are breathable, closed toe work shoes with ventilation, flip flops, swimsuit, shower towel, beach towel, possibly might need twin sheet set, toiletries, sunscreen, mini flashlight, meds, back sack, a couple of nice casual outfits for going out to dinner.
